    Stellar astrophysics and astrometry

We seek a highly motivated and talented post-doctoral level researcher to be hosted at the Astronomy Department of Universidad de Chile, in Santiago, financed for up to two years by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships (IF) - Outgoing, as per the call posted here: https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/portal/screen/opportunities/topic-details/msca-if-2020

The candidate will work with a team of astromers and other scientists in a variety of possible topics (to be defined upon with the candidate), ranging from binary and multiple stellar systems (including exoplanets) using interferometric techniques, galactic structure & kinematics, and resolved stellar populations of the Milky Waty and local group galaxies using astrometric and spectroscopic methodologies, studies of minor bodies of the solar system using astrometric measurements, as well as on the application of statistical techniques derived from information theory applied to the detection and characterization of astronomical sources on digital detectors.

The Department of Astronomy (DAS) at Universidad de Chile,  fosters an engaging and scientifically productive environment, with 24 faculty members and over 40 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. The DAS is one of the leading astronomy centers in Chile, it hosts large internationally recognized collaborations like the Chile-China Center, CCJCA, and the UMI-FCA, along with major research and technology grants such as CATA. Super-computing facilities are also available locally, and through the National Laboratory for High Performance Computing, NLHPC, at Universidad de Chile.

As a DAS post-doctoral fellow, the candidate will qualify as a member of the Chilean community to apply for the guaranteed 10% privileged access on all telescopes in Chile, including ESO/Paranal's 4x8m VLT and 4m VISTA, La Silla's 3.5m NTT and 3.6m and 2.2m telescopes, Gemini-South 8m, Carnegie's 2.5m and Magellan 2x6.5m, CTIO's 4m (Blanco), SOAR 4m, as well as ASTE, APEX, and ALMA.
