One PhD position (three years) is available at the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Trieste. This position is supported by the "AIMed: Antimicrobial Integrated Methodologies for orthopaedic applications" MSCA-ITN project in the frame of the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Networks H2020-MSCA-ITN-2019. AIMed’s Innovative Training Network, consisting of 12 beneficiaries and 7 partner organisations, will develop a range of materials with antimicrobial properties that are suitable for use on the surfaces of orthopaedic implants. This is in response to the increasing problem of post-operative infection by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Recognising a lack of coordinated activities in this area of research, AIMed will not only train people but also develop novel and effective antimicrobial strategies for preventing orthopaedic infections. This work will include the evaluation of antibacterial action and biocompatibility of the developed products using appropriate models. Applicants are invited to apply on-line via the-recruitment system (https://aimed-itn.eu/jobs/application-form).
