Context

Suberin is an insoluble polyester anchored in the inner part of the cell wall. Suberin has been widely investigated in the roots of Arabidopsis thaliana, the tubers of Solanum tuberosum, the bark of Quercus suber L. and more recently in the skin of russeted apples. Our group recently found that the apple MYB93 regulates the whole suberization process. However, it is still uncertain whether MYB93 directly activates the transcription of suberin synthesis, or if intermediary regulators are involved in this process. Our previous gene expression profiling studies underlined number of MYB, NAC and WRKY transcriptional regulators, which are involved in the suberization process.

Description

The aim of this master trainee project is to assess the function of one of these candidates using techniques such as transient overexpression in tobacco leaves, qPCR, whole gene expression profiling (RNA-seq), and analytical chemistry.
