We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher to join the group of Dr. Mikayel AZNAURYAN (www.aznauryan-lab.com) at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB), University of Bordeaux, France (http://www.iecb.u-bordeaux.fr/). The position is fixed term for 1 year, with a possibility of extension; possible starting date is spring 2019.

The successful applicant will utilize and further develop single-molecule FRET spectroscopy to study the conformation and dynamics of intrinsically disordered translation initiation factors in isolation and upon interaction with binding partners, with the aim of obtaining a detailed quantitative description of the molecular mechanisms through which IDPs participate in the regulation of RNA translation. The project will involve designing and preparation of protein systems (expression, purification, fluorescent labeling) and designing and carrying out single-molecule spectroscopy experiments in vitro as well as in live cells.

We are interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of interactions between intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and nucleic acids. For this we use a bouquet of state-of-the-art techniques, among which the central role is attributed to single-molecule FRET (Aznauryan et al. PNAS 2016, Aznauryan et al. JACS 2013, Aznauryan et al. NAR 2016), both in vitro and in live cells (König et al. Nature methods 2015).

Offer Requirements

    Biological sciences: PhD or equivalent
    Chemistry: PhD or equivalent
  • REQUIRED LANGUAGES
    ENGLISH: Excellent

Skills/Qualifications

The candidate should have an educational training in chemistry, biochemistry (or related field), followed by a PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, physical chemistry or related field.

Previous expertise in single-molecule biophysics is highly desirable.

Previous research experience in the fields of protein folding, nucleic acid – protein interactions, is highly desirable.

- Experience with single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy, imaging or similar advanced microscopy methods

- Experience with single-molecule data analysis, programming and/or the design of optical setups

- Experience in protein design, expression and purification

- Experience with protein fluorescent labelling and purification

- Experience with cell culturing and preparation of cell extracts

- Knowledge of use of microinjection and micromanipulation methods

- Knowledge of different scientific software e.g. Origin, Mathematica, MatLab, etc.

- Excellent knowledge of written and oral English.
